A Salute To Our Veteran Entrepreneurs

A Salute To Our Veteran Entrepreneurs

Each year the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) celebrates, connects, and empowers service members during National Veterans Small Business Week (NVSBW), November 4-8, 2019. This marks the sixth annual NVSBW. McDowell Chamber is proud to support and honor our local veteran entrepreneurs and want to encourage our community to do likewise.

Veterans that have honorably served our country are now serving their local communities by providing great services and products. So what makes veterans such great business owners? Carol Roth of the Huffington Post put it best when she said, "When you have prepared for combat, you are more than prepared to take on the business battlefield." The veteran is a defender of freedom, an inspiring member of the community, and an individual who has demonstrated many of the traits necessary for becoming an entrepreneur already. Skills acquired from military service such as risk taking, self-confidence, commitment, motivation, determination, time management, and the allocation of resources are seen in both war and business.

This year’s theme is Mission #VetBiz Success. The Chamber accepts this mission to celebrate our members that are veteran entrepreneurs through social media all week. They've served our country, defended our freedom, and made possible the many benefits we enjoy each day. Join us in supporting them by shopping their stores, using their services, and take some time to just say thank you for helping to make our community great. Check out our list below and if you are veteran business owner and not on our member list, please reach out to me at twolfe@mcdowellchamber.com so that I can add your business. McDowell County Chamber Honors Veteran Business Owners

We also want to highlight some of the benefits that are offered by the Small Business Administration that assist veterans in all aspects of running their business. Each day during NVSBW, SBA will highlight different topics related to the veteran entrepreneurship journey, including:

  • Transition Assistance
  • Entrepreneurial Training
  • Stakeholders and Resources
  • Access to Capital
  • Government Contracting
  • Disaster Assistance
