A lush expanse of green welcomes visitors to the Buck Creek RV Park located off Hwy 80 on Toms Creek Road in Marion. The park has been family owned since 1971 and for the last 25 years, has been operated by Danny Lee and Ann Watson along with their two sons, Justin and Jeremiah.
The Chamber was proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary with them recently at a Ribbon Cutting. A break in the rain presented us with blue skies and cooler temperatures for the occasion. The babbling creek cradling the property on the west set the background music as Danny Lee entertained us with family history and treasured memories of guests, some who have vacationed here for years.
The unspoiled setting is extremely well maintained and campers can enjoy creekside sites complete with firepits and there is a small, smartly stocked store inside the office that provides the basic necessities for vacationers. The RV park is close enough to town and larger stores in case the need should arise, but, says Danny Lee, most people come to get away from all that.
Danny Lee and his family are the perfect hosts to weary, overworked travelers. Danny Lee, having grown up helping his parents, Robert Lee and Peggy Watson, run the campground and knows the trails and all of the things to do here, including offering up local fishing tips. Danny Lee's grandparents, Roy and Ada Watson bought the property in 1971 and sold it to Robert Lee and Peggy in 1973. The family goes out of their way to make each guest feel at home here in the mountains. They encourage fraternization among families and campfire gatherings are a common sight. Pets are welcome and they'll have plenty of room to run and play.
Buck Creek has 74 RV sites with WiFi, cable TV, picnic tables, and RV and boat storage (to enjoy nearby Lake James) should you need it. They also offer monthly, weekly, and seasonal sites. Other amenities include large, level pull-throughs, 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service, laundry, ice and firewood, cold drinks and ice cream. The park is open from April 1st through November 1st.
