It was a pensive start to the 2018 Spring Golf Classic this past Saturday at the Marion Lake Club as organizers and some die-hard golfers waited under misty skies to see what mother nature was going to bring for the day! As the registration line grew, the rain clouds closed up and we were off to another great day of golfing and good times!
Taking top honors and $300 for the day in the first flight was: Morris-Herron Heating & Cooling Team with a 56. Team members included William Morris, Jody Franklin, Brent Hurst, and Jamie Lundsford. Second Place winners ($200) in Flight One was Team Pepsi with Sammy Burnnett, Vince Cherry, Danny Hearn, and Joel Mullen also with a 56. A handicap tie-breaker had to be used on this tight match.
Second Flight first place winners scoring 63 were Crane Resistoflex I with Jonathan Barham, Donnie Lytle, Doug McPeters, and Dwayne Anderson. They also took home $300. Coming in second place and winning $200 with a score of 64 was Team Rocket Sled consisting of Chris Allison, Josh Allison, Tim Allison and Derrick Walls. Closest to the Hole winners were John Gossett and Bob Hunter who went home with brand new Pepsi Coolers!
The great JC Property Professionals Ball Drop followed the tournament with more than 400 balls tumbling into the green. The winning ticket holder was Jeanie Anderson winning half the pot for a take-home of $898.50!
Only a handful of teams decided to stay home and one new team registered that day. Golfers were greeted with fresh-brewed coffee and donut holes compliments of Crooked Door Coffee House and Mr. Bob's Donut Holes. Following a short delay, players were happily sent off in their carts with goodie bags and coolers filled with snacks and drinks from Pepsi and hopes of winning that 2018 Chevrolet Colorado Truck at the par three hole 17, or the golf vacation on hole 8 among others. Although no one drove off in the shiny new truck, Jim Cook Chevrolet assured us they are happy to offer test drives! Countryside Barbecue provided a delicious, and generous lunch for everyone.
Despite some questionable weather, the event was a great success with 19 teams playing. Thanks to our generous Event Sponsors, South McDowell Quarry, Vannoy Construction, Miller Realty & Development, and Jim Cook Chevrolet. Numerous companies stepped up to provide fantastic items for the goodie bags and our Hole Sponsors were also very instrumental in making this event happen. We appreciate the engagement of our businesses in the community and believe it creates opportunities for economic growth and fosters a greater sense of pride which benefits everyone.
